The exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union
The exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union brought numerous consequences, including a change in trade relations, redefining them according to the new role of the UK as a third country in all respects.
The Brexit phenomenon was mainly articulated in three phases, timed by precise deadlines; the third and final phase, initially scheduled for July 2021, was postponed to October and finally to January 2022: this phase will see the full implementation of new customs controls on imports of goods from the EU.
Hungary and the EKÁER system
Since 2015, a new system for controlling the movement of goods and merchandise by road, called EKÁER (Electronic Trade and Transport Control System), has been introduced in Hungary. The objectives of this measure are to increase transparency in the movement of goods, to eliminate food-related fraud that can endanger human health, and to reduce tax evasion.
As of 1 January 2021, the regulations under the EKÁER system have changed: only products mentioned in Decree 51/2014 of 31 December, issued by the Minister of National Economy regarding the determination of the most risky products, must be reported.
The EKÁER registration obligation remains applicable only for high-risk products.
